When it comes to motorcycle brands that are based in the Lombardy region of Italy, the thought of MV Agusta immediately comes to mind.
However, an even smaller boutique marque exists in this beautiful region of the boot-shaped country: Magni Motorcycles.
The name Magni should be a familiar one with students of the industry, as the company’s namesake, Arturo Magni, is one of Italy’s more important figures in the motorcycle industry.
And this, the Magni Italia 01/01, is an homage to Arturo’s legacy.
A part of the grand prix racing teams at Gilera, MV Agusta, and Cagiva, Arturo Magni’s name is linked to the results of the greats like Giacomo Agostini, John Surtees, Phil Read, and Mike Hailwood – totaling 38 rider world championship titles during his tenure.
He would ultimately serve as the head of the racing department at both MV Agusta and Cagiva during his times at those companies, before heading out on his own to form Magni Motorcycles.
His business would supply parts to a variety of brands, namely MV Agusta, but Magni also made a variety of small-run and boutique two-wheeled machines.
That tradition continues to this date, and with the Magni Italia 01/01 the company remembers the roots of its name with a special one-of-one build, as the “Magni Italia 01/01” name implies.
As the core of the bike is an 800cc MV Agusta three-cylinder engine, from which flow an asymmetrical exhaust.
The rest of the bike though is decidedly less modern, with a deep aesthetic from the 1960’s and 1970’s of motorcycle design.
The frame and bodywork, and the rest of the go-fast parts also come from Italian brands: the brakes are by Brembo; the suspension by ORAM; the wire-spoked wheels by JoNich; and even the rubber grips are by Ariete Sandro Mentasti.
