The latest reports suggest Triumph’s incoming sub-300cc motorcycle could make use of Bajaj’s new air-cooled engine. Here are the details!

The Indian automaker, Bajaj and Triumph Motorcycles initially announced their partnership about 3-4 years ago in 2017. Earlier last year, in January 2020 Bajaj and Triumph made their partnership official intending to develop a range of 200cc – 500cc motorcycles. According to the latest reports, the first of many fruits from the Triumph-Bajaj partnership could either a Triumph Bonneville 250 or a Triumph Street 250 with a 250cc single-cylinder engine.

Sources suggest the engine could be borrowed from Bajaj’s upcoming next-gen Pulsar 250 which was spotted recently. The new 250cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine is said to be torquey at low and mid ranges; making it a perfect fit for a “Bonneville 250” or a “Triumph Street Single”. There is also a chance that the new mill being co-engineered by both Bajaj and Triumph but we would never know.

If the speculations and rumours are true, we can expect the incoming 250cc Triumph to be priced competitively. Regardless of the engine capacity, the incoming Triumph model could make bikes like the Honda CB350, CB350RS and Royal Enfield Meteor 350 make a run for their money. There is a high demand for small to mid-range bikes in the Asian market. Generally, manufacturers from both East and West with small and mid-range bikes thrive in the Asian market. Triumph moving into the small/mid-range motorcycle segment with its premium design DNA could be a bold move for the brand. Well, only time will tell..
