5 things you shouldn’t do while cornering

1. The speed is too high.

Before riding the motorcycle into a curve, you must first assess whether the speed is too high for us to control or not. Is the road surface wet, slippery, or covered with gravel? and the shape of the curve.  Then slow down to a fair amount and ride in slowly looking out towards the end of the curve. 

2. Clutch

When cornering, it is always necessary to slow down first. Along with using the appropriate gear position, sometimes the rider may not be able to understand the length and angle of the curve, which may cause the motorcycle to flow into a curve at a potentially dangerous speed. Therefore, the motorcycle has to slow down with “Engine Brake” or use the engine to slow down slowly and smoothly without jerking. And when the curve is over, control the motorcycle and go through that curve. 

3. Use the brakes in curves.

Using the brakes in a curve is considered dangerous. Because using the brakes, whether front or back, there is a chance of slipping and the motorcycle loses control. It’s called flicking or slipping and eventually falling. Braking in corners has to be absolutely gentle and smooth in order to not cause a breakdown and control the motorcycle to pass safely, but if there is a real need to slow down, the engine speed is not slow enough. Maybe start by gradually using the brakes on both the front and rear wheels slowly and softly as possible.

4. One-handed riding

This may not be done often, but sometimes riders are carrying things. And more and more people are starting to use mobile phones while riding, even when cornering. Therefore it is extremely dangerous. Because riding must be stable and control the handlebars precisely and safely. Riding with one hand in a straight line is already a risk. If it’s a curve, it’s many times more dangerous. 

5. Look outside the curve

While entering a curve, it is as important as other points. Eyes must look at the curve and to the end of the curve. In order to see conditions and events in advance, In order to be ready to control the motorcycle, and in case there are unexpected events, we will be prepared. Especially the curve that has a blind end. Be more careful and look as far as possible. Also, your motorcycle turns where you look, so keep your eyes fixed on the right spot.
