BMW M 1000RR engine and performance

The well-known water-cooled four-cylinder in-line engine designed for the Superbike World Championship is used in the new BMW M 1000RR. As before, its peak output is 212 hp at 14,500 rpm, and the maximum torque of 113 Nm is achieved at 11,000 rpm. The maximum speed of the M RR is 15,100 revolutions. Highlights of the engine include light 2-ring forged pistons with optimized piston rings, narrow and light rocker arms, fully CNC-machined intake ports, and BMW ShiftCam technology. Other components are titanium valves, optimized camshafts, and longer titanium connecting rods from Pankl, each 85 g lighter than the S 1000 RR engine, for reduced friction and lower weight.

New M RR basic variant and new M RR M Competition

The new M RR is available in two versions. As an M RR basic version in Light white non-metallic for the tank, tank side panels, airbox cover, and rear section, and as an M RR M Competition in Black Storm metallic for the tank and tank side panels, supplemented by an airbox cover and a rear section in visible carbon and a tinted windscreen. Both variants have a fairing in visible carbon with tapes in the M design.

8 km/h more top speed for the BMW M 1000RR 2023

The biggest update of the new M 1000 RR can be found above all in the further development of aerodynamics. A newly designed fairing made of visible carbon with a higher window increases the top speed in connection with an optimized flow around the driver. For the first time, light and, according to BMW, stiff front panel support made of carbon is used for this fairing. The top speed of the new M RR has increased compared to the previous model from 306 to 314 km/h.

In the course of this aerodynamic development, the winglets were also completely revised. They now produce more aerodynamic downforce – both when riding upright and when leaning.

The area of ​​the front wheel represents a further point in the optimization of aerodynamics. Here, for the first time on a BMW motorcycle, brake cooling air ducts made of visible carbon – so-called brake ducts – are used. They are integrated into the new front mudguard, which has been optimized for improved airflow around the fork legs and the brake calipers. The M Aero Wheel Covers, also made of visible carbon, ensure a further improvement in driving resistance – especially at speeds above 250 km/h. The M Aero Wheel Covers are reserved for the M RR M Competition.

New rear section rounds off the superbike

A redesigned rear end makes the new M 1000 RR appear sportier and more dynamic. The short number plate holder and the new M Endurance seat are also new. Thanks to a modified wiring harness with LWS connector, the now shorter number plate holder with light units can be removed more quickly and easily.
